Smaller, more family run teams, that would seem to make sense, no? What a shame. Hope they'll come back. 9. ShinyMew151 posted: 06.16.2020 - 8:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @5 Gerhart likely hasn't found a driver for whatever reason. He's done driving, that happened because of a heart attack he suffered in the offseason . Also, the 28 has shut down, that was confirmed 10. Chad Bryant scaled back due to the pandemic. And Our is focusing on the Xfinity Series for the time being. That explains 4 of the 12 cars that were in Daytona that are not entered here. 12. JSPorts posted: 06.16.2020 - 9:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well, it would be cool to see Smith score a top-10. He's 51 years old, has started 348 ARCA races over 27 years, and has never come home in the top 10. His best finish is 12th (Salem 1988, Winchester 2002, Pocono 2005, DuQuoin 2016.) This could be the best chance he's ever had, though, as it's a plate race with only 21 cars. The previous smallest field at Daytona or Talladega he's faced has been the 26-car field at last year's Talladega race, where Smith placed 16th. 13. Mile501 posted: 06.16.2020 - 10:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @10 - Who wouldn't want to see someone who's been around so long get a top 10? JSPorts posted: 06.16.2020 - 12:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wouldn't say this race will necessarily be boring. However, there are only 3 ARCA winners in the field (Herbst, Self & Dean.) I just hope the lack of experience doesn't cost a lot of these drivers. With only 21 cars in the field and the wreck-prone nature of Talladega (plus inexperienced or not successful drivers), I wonder if we'll see more than 10 cars finish. 16. In 2014 ARCA announced starting in 2015 teams would have the option of using a crate motor built by Ilmor. It is called the ACE, or ARCA Control Engine. The feeling was it would be a very reliable cheap motor. It would have a 500 mile warranty and it would be guaranteed for 1500 miles of reliability between services. It would cost $35,000 and you would only need two to run the ARCA season to get the best performance. However it had a downside it is a sealed engine which means if you had to rebuild it you had to send it back to Ilmor who would do the rebuilding at a cost of 10 to $15,000 which is more than double what other engine rebuilds would be. Also If you didn't run the ACE you would be restricted at least 100hp for parity. The other thing at the very same time was the steel bodies. It 2015 it was announced a transition from steel to composite bodies over the next several years. Last year saw the final steel bodies run at tracks under 3/4 of a mile unfortunately there are some teams that just can't afford to make the switch. 33. Anon posted: 06.17.2020 - 12:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This is what happens when almost all the relief/advanced pay money NASCAR had was given to the 3 national series. It also doesnt help that the budget for ARCA/East/West is nearly 2 million a year to be competitive, while the average purse is no bigger than a dirt late model purse. Talladega and Daytona both have the "largest" purses in ARCA,which means 16,000 for 1st,all the way down to 2,200 for the backmarkers. 38.
