Pretty sure my weekly SLM division at Irwindale pays out more than that. This is likely due to the pandemic not allowing much fans (if any at all) so that means less money that goes into the event from revenue and therefore less to give out to the drivers. 13. Rexrobe posted: 09.04.2020 - 5:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) SLM racing all over seems to be hurting - the purses just aren't enough to evern somewhat cover the cost of running the car. This purse isn't much better than the struggling CARS SLM tour, and the cost to run ARCA is far higher. With the soft economy even before COVID, the days of sponsorship making up for awful purses have come and gone. It's really a vicious circle: there isn't enough money in racing to make running a car affordable, if not necessarily profitable. This lowers the car count, which lowers the fan interest, which promoters respond by raising ticket prices (seriously, $25 a pop for a 14 car show?), which further hurts the gate, which makes purses smaller and races less valuable for a sponsor, which lowers the car count, etc. etc. etc. 14. Bret Holmes went back Hailie Deegan for second. Down to 25 laps to go, Hailie Deegan has been all over the back bumper of Holmes trying to take second away, as Sam Mayer pulls away with the lead. Ty Gibbs was behind Hailie Deegan briefly, but lost some ground is now trying to hold off Taylor Gray in fourth. Michael Self only lost a lap after that last caution, he runs the first car not on the lead lap in 6th. As they run right now, he'll still be the championship leader by 3 points if nothing else changes. 19. I wouldn't be shocked to see Smith full time in the Truck Series next year along with Mayer's schedule being increased. Gibbs will also likely make his Truck debut soon, maybe even as soon as this year at a short track. These three guys are just on another level compared to their competition. 40. rm posted: 09.08.2020 - 1:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The little bit of info that has come out from JGR this year suggests that Gibbs will run the full ARCA season next year and hop on up to an Xfinity ride after that, strictly staying in the JGR camp. 41. rm posted: 09.13.2020 - 1:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rough night for Chandler Smith in this one. The first caution of the night came when Smith and Deegan made contact while racing for a spot in the top five, sending Smith spinning around. Smith lost a couple of laps making repairs but still showed great speed at that point, running in what would have been 4th place on the track once laps started clicking off. When 2nd-place Deegan made contact with leader Holmes not long after that, a chain reaction was set off that saw eventual winner Mayer ease into the back of Deegan's car while Smith got out of shape behind that group, going for a half-spin and nipping Gibbs' car as he came back down the track. The contact lost him his opportunity to get the free pass as the first car laps down, so Smith seemed to set out on a mission to ensure he'd be the beneficiary when the next caution came. That goal did not exactly endear his competitors that were on the lead lap, and after several laps of fiercely protecting his position against Holmes, Holmes finally had enough and sent Smith into his third spin of the night. That meant that once again, Smith would miss out on the free pass. Smith wasn't quite done yet, much to his dismay, and he went into a slide for a fourth time when rookie Kris Wright ran Smith over and brought out yet another yellow. By my notes, the most recent time prior to this that an ARCA driver was involved in four cautions in one race was Berlin in 2018, courtesy of Riley Herbst - but even then, two of the cautions Herbst was involved in were occasions where he initiated contact and sent someone else spinning (because he decided he needed a caution, which was a recurring theme in his ARCA career, but that's a rant for another time...). The last time before that? Just the weekend before at Springfield, when Bryan Dauzat spun 5(!!!) times. Being in 4 cautions is bad - and difficult - enough, and it's gotta be even more rare to be in 5 in a single race. Luckily for Smith here, he wasn't involved in the fifth caution, ceding his role to teammate Michael Self when Wright blasted Self over the top of the banking and all the way back to the padded wall just as the yellow for the scheduled break was getting ready to come out. 42. Mile501 posted: 09.27.2020 - 7:41 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Webmaster - Bret Holmes' point total for this race is incorrect. It should be 44 instead of 43 (42 points for finishing 2nd + 1 point for leading + 1 point for winning the pole). The overall ARCA standings page shows his correct total for the season (826 through 17 races), but his individual driver page is off by 1 point (it shows 675 points through 17 races, plus the 150 bonus points equals 825), and I finally figured out that it's because he is missing that point in this race. 43.
