Only 5 times has Self finished ahead of Holmes. In their last visit to Kansas, Holmes dominated the race and won, while Self finished 6th. With Ty Gibbs and Chandler Smith in this race, it is unlikely that either Holmes or Self will win the pole or the race. If neither championship contender is unable to lead, win the pole, or win the race, Holmes only needs to finish 9th or better to clinch the title. 8. But it is pretty unlikely that Self gets pole. 10. Mile501 posted: 10.16.2020 - 1:36 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @9 - That may be, but as I pointed out, the last race at Kansas did not have Ty Gibbs and Chandler Smith in the field. When those two drivers have raced in ARCA this year, one of them usually gets the pole. (In fairness, Holmes beat them both for the pole once, but that was at a short track.) 11. AJ posted: 10.16.2020 - 2:14 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Why are people talking about the pole? ARCA is at the same venue as NASCAR so it's too dangerous to qualify. Field is set by owner's points, Ty Gibbs on pole due to the #18 already winning the owner's championship. I believe this is the lineup base off owner points: 1-Gibbs 2-Holmes 3-Self 4-C. Smith 5-Lupton 6-Deegan 7-Dollar 8-Wright 9-Heim 10-Richmond 11-O. Smith 12-B. Smith 13-Griffith 14-Melton 15-Nicolopoulos 16-Caudell 17-Clubb 18-Basham Side Note: Deegan will be Rookie of the Year just by taking the green flag. Not enough cars to enter for Dollar to make up the gap. 12. The 2020 one certainly has been memorable, perhaps Michael Self's incredible Talladega save is indicative of how the series' season as a whole went to come back from the brink and do the best they can with what they have. 13. It definitely helps make up for the other things the series has been dealing with - the pandemic, lower car counts, lack of competitive cars, etc. That will definitely be what I'm keeping an eye on tonight. I can't watch a lot of the races because I don't have MAVTV, but I usually enjoy the ones I'm able to catch. Looking forward to tonight's race & a champion being crowned. 14. Bret Holmes would join Mason Mitchell, Patrick Sheltra and Justin Allgaier as recent series champs winning it all on a single-car family-owned team. Glad this story seems to have a happy ending, the Richmonds and the Peterson crew face an uphill battle just to get the car ready to hit the track each week. Would have been a huge setback for them if it happened mid-season, though having that stuff stolen during the offseason is still far from ideal. Heard that the Richmonds were preparing to purchase a car from the now-defunct KBR operation, which in turn had been purchased by KBR from the similarly defunct MDM team. Most of the tracks that were supposed to be run this year before COVID came will likely return (Charlotte, Mid Ohio, Elko, Madison, Watkins Glen). I think that the main issue that ARCA needs to look at is the low car counts at any race that's not at Daytona. Mile501 posted: 12.01.2020 - 5:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @88 - The West race at Sonoma is paired up with Cup and usually gets pretty good car counts. The ARCA race at Road America is paired up with Xfinity; hopefully it will have a decent-sized field on that large 4-mile course. 90. Toledo actually held 3 ARCA races in 2020 after not being on the original schedule at all. 91. There's no way teams like DGR, McAnally, Venturini, etc. are going to prepare good road racing cars, hire multiple drivers, and attend both events on opposite ends of the country, on the same day. This'll result in an unnecessarily split field, when all these teams could have used their road racing cars in an extra race if these were not on the same weekend. It will absolutely affect the car count at both venues. I also am not interested in seeing Cup regulars running ARCA West races at Sonoma. People complain every time a top Cup driver enters an Xfinity race, but it is ok when they enter a regional ARCA race? Lower level Xfinity regulars at Mid-Ohio for ARCA, sure, but where are they going to find rides when half the teams that could give them cars are in Sonoma? I think this is a scheduling mistake that they should have worked out better. On a more positive note, I can't wait to see which races are declared for the ShowDown series. I'm going to predict it will be Phoenix, Toledo, Mid-Ohio, Elko, Berlin, Iowa, Winchester, Milwaukee, Bristol, Salem. 93. PucciMan posted: 12.02.2020 - 2:32 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) @92 So you don't want Cup rookies or Cup drivers like Bubba and Preece who suck at road racing don't get extra practice? IIRC Harvick ran a K&N race at Sonoma to get practice for the Cup race and look what happen, he won the K&N & Cup race. 94. Like Deegan will probably run Daytona and a few other races for experience purposes, Chandler may still do a few races too, and perhaps Santino Ferrucci and Sam Mayer as they are supposed to be running multiple races in xfinity next year, same thing goes for 2021 truck rookies Carson Hocevar and Chase Purdy. 96. In addition Richard Garvie who made 2 starts late in the year has said he is planning to run full time for Fast Track this season rumored to be in the #11 Car. In addition Hillenburg could also have a full timer in the #10 or #12 car as well maybe Owen Smith or Mike Basham. Eric Caudell could maybe run the full season after running the last 5 races this past season. Tim Richmond will be back with Wayne Peterson maybe he goes full time in the 06. Lira motorsports is making a comeback with Logan Misuraca. In addition however, Chad Bryant is unlikely to have a full time driver in 2021 as Derek Griffith is likely to run another limited schedule for them and will probably have other drivers fill the rest of the schedule in the 22 and 77. DGR is unlikely to have a full time driver in 2021 unless Thad Moffitt can get funding. Wintron also not likely to return full time as Gus Dean will once again run a limited schedule for them, Wayne Peterson may enter his 2nd car full time as well but with multiple drivers. Bret Holmes is likely moving up to run a few truck races next year and will probably miss a few ARCA races as a result but could still enter the 23 for other drivers when Holmes isn't behind the wheel. Kimmel Racing also unlikely to attempt the full season after skipping races last year as Scott Melton is returning but only for a limited schedule again. There are other teams that may decide to enter the full season but right now, this is what we got. 101.
