In his final race at the wheel of his iconic #84 the Bluebird sent his famous number into retirement with one final victory for the road. This was his series-record 85th victory. This wasn't Senneker's last race, he did three more in 1999, but it still was a fine send off to one of the series' best. Adam Petty makes his final ASA start. He moved up to the Busch series for 1999. 2. ASA Facts posted: 08.11.2015 - 10:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gerry Gunderman owned MIke Garvey's #8 all year long. Scott LaFavre owned the Tecumseh #1 driven by various people for the season. He also owned the #10 driven by Johnny Sauter at Pikes Peak. 3. The 1998 turned out to be Eddy's last in ASA where he ran every race in pursuit of the title and his last in his long association with Pontiac, he switched to Chevrolet for 1999 although sponsorship woes kept him off the track for most of the season. This was the ASA's series fourth and final race at North Carolina's Southern National Raceway Park. The series visited the track from 1996 to 1998, running two races here the first year. 4. St. Amant won the title with consistency, he won only two races this year while Hansen had seven victories but 15 top-5s and 18 top-10s in 20 races was enough to give him the title by a healthy margin. Future NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson also clinched the ASA Rookie of the Year award just by starting this race. Jack Landis picks up the first of his two ASA pole positions. Joe Nott lost his ASA ride in the #1 Pontiac late in the season in favor of Ted Smokstad. As mentioned earlier Nott was in the broadcast booth with TNN for this one instead of out on the track. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
