Jimmie and his Herzog Motorsports team moved up to NASCAR's Busch series after this race, finishing out the 1999 season in the higher series before going full time in 2000. This was Johnson's second ASA win. 2. Sauter came into this race with a 16-point lead on Miller and an 84-point edge on Johnson. While Sauter's fourth-place run was the lowest of the title contenders it was enough that he claimed the title by six points over third-place finisher Miller and 64 over race winner Johnson. The 1999 ASA season ends at Rougemont, North Carolina's famous Orange County Speedway. It turned out to be the series' second and final race at the track. 6. ASA completely revamped its race cars after this race as the series mandated the use of a crate motor, spec bodies, and BFGoodrich tires for the 2000 season. 7. Too bad Johnson lost the championship. Anybody know if he still races anywhere? ;) 8. rm posted: 07.17.2017 - 4:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First caution - laps 16-20 - 77 debris backstretch Second caution - laps 39-43 - 72 spun turn 2 Third caution - laps 105-114 - 6, 18 accident turn 1 Fourth caution - laps 149-154 - ??? Shown as driving the test LS1 #V8 Pontiac car and starting 35th, he appears to have run as high as 8th during the race. Not sure if he's counted in the official results or not, as I can't find where he finished on any other website nor in the TNN live feed of the race. When mentioned, the tv crew said that Smokstad had run up near the lead most of the day and the last I saw of him on the ticker he was around 10th-15th positions. 9. He finished fifth, but was ineligible for the official results. 12.
