This was the first race for ASA with its new format including a spec GM
Vortec engine for all teams (no matter their brand), spec bodies, and
B.F. Goodrich radial tires. The changes made ASA the major first stock
car series in the world to have a spec engine.

*Johnny Saucer ran some ASA races in 1998. This was not his series debut
despite what the TNN broadcast said.

Larry Foyt makes his ASA debut and finishes in the top-10. It's an
impressive feat given this was Foyt's first-ever race in a stock car.

The commentators for the race were Rick Benjamin and Steve Byrnes with
Jim Tretow and Bob Dillner on pit road.

Looking back years later it's amazing how wildly different the start and
end of Scott Wimmer's 2000 season would be. He starts the year missing
the field here in ASA yet after those two wins put him on the radar of
the higher levels by the end of the year he'd be a Busch regular and
make a surprise Cup debut where he led at Atlanta.
