Larry Foyt scores his only ASA pole and leads the opening 43 laps, the second and last ASA race he led. Foyt ultimately crashed out of what would be his penultimate ASA race before moving to the NASCAR Busch series. 2. In the interim NASCAR sanctioned the event as a race for its All-Pro series from 1992 through 1998 before the CRA Kendall Late Model Series took over the race in 1999. 3. Gary St. Amant came into this race needing only to finish 30th or better to clinch the 2000 ASA championship and while early retirements assured he would he went out and took his #7 to a historic win anyway. 4. rm posted: 01.18.2019 - 11:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First caution - laps 5-18 - 03, 08, 09, 3, 20, 33, 49, 55 accident backstretch Second caution - laps 41-48 - 05, 4 accident turn 2 Third caution - laps 82-84 - 16 spun turn 2 Fourth caution - laps 119-121 - 07, 1, 16 accident backstretch Fifth caution - laps 144-148 - 28 accident turn 2 Sixth caution - laps 153-159 - 5, 8, 16, 21 accident frontstretch Seventh caution - laps 191-200 - tire check Eighth caution - laps 250-257 - tire check Ninth caution - laps 279-282 - 22, 23, 27, 44, 83 accident turn 2 Tenth caution - laps 329-338 - 6, 11, 75 accident turn 4 Eleventh caution - laps 386-391 - 14 stopped turn 3 3 sponsor - Florida Auto Auction of Orlando 55 DNF reason - crash (had pretty significant nose damage that the crew was shown working on on pit road) 14 crew chief - Joe Shear Jr. A big issue was the BF Goodrich tires for Winchester. Pseudo-competition cautions were arranged to fly if there were roughly 50 green flag laps in a row or any string of non-cautionworthy issues on track. A couple drivers did blow tires, ending their days, while others still had issues with related parts such as axles that resulted in crashes. Mark Cole pulled off after being lapped several times in less than 20 green flag laps. A quick glance at his ASA stats shows that this may have been a pretty frequent occurrence. During this race, Butch Miller and Mike Miller qualified near each other and ran pretty much right next to each other the entire day. During the top 10 driver intros aired on TNN, the drivers said hello to their families watching at home. Butch and Mike decided to wish good luck to their brothers - implying each other. Rick Benjamin continued to play into the joke during the length of the broadcast, finally stating that they were merely brothers in the "crafty veterans club" with under 20 to go. The joke was aimed at particularly gullible viewers, including yours truly admittedly, and was probably pretty funny to longtime ASA viewers. 5.
