RaceFanX posted: 03.19.2016 - 2:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The 2001 ASA championship came down to the final race as Johnny Sauter came into this race with a comfortable lead on Gary St. Amant. Sauter didn't hold back as he turned in a dominant performance to win the title in style with one more race victory. This was Sauter's 10th and final ASA win, incredibly all coming in the 2001 season, as he moved up to the NASCAR Busch series in 2002 and only ran one more ASA race after this. ASA legend Mike Eddy records his final pole in the series, and first since Jennerstown back in 1998. The Polar Bear was fast and led the opening laps with Johnny Sauter hot on his heels until Sauter put the bumper to him off Turn 4 on the fifth lap, spinning Eddy and causing a single-car crash that knocked him out of contention. 2.
