There was no last race hype because it wasn't known this would be the last race at the time. A decision by the fair's leadership to improve Grandstand area, the site of its concerts, led to the end of the track. 2. It was ultimately his final race in the series. 4. The car also had a small decal reading "From a Knight to a King" with Dick's traditional #99 and Richard's #43 on it as a joke in reference to Trickle's nickname as the White Knight. 5. spinpsychle posted: 02.03.2017 - 1:44 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) On a local PBS show called "state fair stories," they said they brought in a guy from NASCAR, who said the track needed significant improvements to bring them in, and they decided it was too expensive. A couple years ago you could still see where the track used to be. Now the pavement, banking, etc are all gone and it's grass now. They still use the grandstand for concerts and the stage is just permanent now. There was an exhibit about the old race in a building nearby during the fair. They had a uniform that Dick Trickle had worn at a race. 6. This would be both his only start of the 2002 season and his only top-10 finish on the tour. 7.
