The sanction body's marketing department had teams move their car numbers off the doors and onto the rear quarter panels by the back bumper to free up the doors to be used for larger sponsor logos. The look was different to say the least... I can't say I was a fan of the idea. To me it seemed like the smaller numbers at the back both made them too hard to read (so you couldn't tell who was who) and made the cars look oddly plain. In the decade since no other stock car series has tried duplicating this scheme. 2.
