Elko and Milwaukee, the previous two races, had their qualifying sessions rained out as well. Brian Downey wound up in the hospital after his hard single-car crash. 2. rm posted: 11.13.2018 - 12:15 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) To the rear - 4 - backup car Attendance - 26,590 In the latest in a series of missteps, the ASA implemented wicker bills for this race and slowed the cars down nearly 2 seconds per lap compared to the first Kentucky race. This was yet another unpopular move with drivers and it led to pack-style racing that was present at each of the final 3 series races. Combine that with the restrictor plates and drivers predicted the race would be a mess. At 2 and a half hours for 150 laps, you could say that it was. Brent Downey, as I noted before, wound up hospitalized with a broken arm and hyperextended neck tendons after he blew a tire and went head on into the outside wall. Travis Kittleson spent some extended time in the care center after having the wind knocked out of him in his crash. Several drivers caught up in accidents blamed the new aero package for incidents that otherwise could have been avoided. 3. This was his 20th ASA win but it would be his penultimate victory in the series...which isn't as bad as it sounds since ASA only had two races left anyway. 4.
