Steve Carlson finished fourth here in 1998 but outdueled front row
starter Jamie McMurray to get the win here, his sixth of 1999. Hawkeye
Downs Speedway was always a track more associated with ASA than NASCAR
and this ended up being the second and last NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge
Series race here. The series never raced in Iowa again after this race.

Attendance - 4,500

First caution - laps 106-119 - 96 oil on track

John Nutley looked like he lost an engine but insisted his car was fine,
continuing to oil the track as the cars ran under the caution. Nutley
did eventually pit and, as he insisted, did not actually blow his motor,
but regardless there was an extensive caution period while the fluid he
lost was cleaned up, resulting in a very late restart where Steve
Carlson continued to hold off future Cup star Jamie McMurray.
