Steve Carlson won this after leading 24 laps! Same info used for all races that year! 2. I found a lone source that states that the race was cut from 50 laps to 40 due to weather & time constraints, but considering the "50" branding for this race is in line with the other 40-lappers the series ran at Gateway I feel pretty skeptical about that one (though, for what it's worth, when the sister All-Pro series ran 40 laps at Gateway the race title had 40 in it). Carlson said in victory lane that his first win at a track this large was one of the biggest of his career. Considering how many races he's won, that's saying something. Carlson's winnings - $9,800 Qualifying was rained out - no time trials. 4. rm posted: 10.27.2020 - 9:12 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) An oddity about this one that somehow was never mentioned in the newspaper article I have about this race: a caution came out on lap 12 for rain and a red flag came out shortly thereafter. By the time the track was dry enough for cars to get back out there, the scheduled green flag time for the day's Busch race was quickly approaching. So they proceeded with the nationally televised Busch race as planned and then resumed with the remainder of this race. The race got back underway on lap 16 with Jon Lemke leading on the restart. Not completely realizing that this was a restart, and not the start of the race again, leader Lemke laid back on the restart and veteran Steve Carlson was able to get a great jump and had the more favorable line to take the lead and not give it back. Lemke, to his credit, was a very good sport about the turn of events and said that it was on him for the mental lapse. He also pointed out that he had plenty of laps to get back by Carlson and could not pull the pass off, despite keeping a close tail on Carlson for the last half of the event. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
