This was the NASCAR Re/Max Challenge Series' eighth race at Illinois'
Rockford Speedway dating back to 1998 but notably the series' first race
here that wasn't won by Steve Carlson. Carlson, concluding his
championship-winning season, led the most laps but had to settle for
second as Eddie Hoffman won his second race in a row. Title runner-up
Brian Hoppe took third.

Dan Fredrickson has a bit of a rough night and has to settle for 16th in
what proved to be his last race as a RE/MAX Challenge Series regular.
Fredrickson won the series' Most Popular Driver award in 2001 but he and
sponsor Great Clips moved over to race in ASA for 2002.
