Gordon stuck around to call the shots for Allison, but that very well may have been Allison's downfall as he gave up the lead for what would be the final time after a round of pit stops during a midrace caution period. In Gordon's defense, though, Buddy Baker pulled away with ease near the end to win the race by 8 seconds, suggesting that Baker probably had the better firepower all along. Allison said Gordon's engine was going away, robbing him of the chance to pass Baker, but Baker said in victory lane that he had held back and saved his tires for most of the race and did not push the car much until he put on his final set of new tires that he finished the race on. This was young Richie Panch's first race against the big boys in a GNS/Cup car. The 18-year old son of Marvin Panch ran a respectable 11th and stayed out of trouble. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
