Could it be that Wendell Jr. started this race ? 6. Rob posted: 11.22.2013 - 2:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Wendell Scott Jr started this race and the final two. 7. His first race ended early with a blown engine but Scott, Jr. would run two more GN East races later in the season. His father Wendell, Sr. would also return in the fall for one last Cup race before hanging up the helmet. 10. Brown (1971 Chevrolet) Richard Childress (1973 Chevrolet) Bill Clemons (1973 AMC) Frank Lamp (1973 Chevrolet) WD: Buck Baker (1972 Pontiac) Buddy Baker (1973 Chevrolet) Coming off his big World 600 win, car owner Nord Krauskopf reversed course and would not allow Buddy Baker to run this GNE race as originally planned. Krauskopf said he didn't want anything to happen to Buddy before the next race at Dover. With that sudden decree, Buck Baker pulled out of the event as well, saying that most of the fun was going to be in getting to go head-to-head on the track with his son. He had been scrambling to make repairs to his Firebird and knew that he'd be going down to the wire trying to get his engine race-ready in time as well. Both made good on their promises to the promoter, though, and made the appearance at the track to sign autographs for the fans. Buck joked that he had been offered a ride for the race anyway: the pace car. Wendell Scott had also been planning on running in this race, but after being seriously injured at Talladega the month prior his schedule for the year was adjusted and his son stepped in for the GNE races instead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
