Ricky Crouch, younger brother of defending Tour champion Robbie Crouch, was scheduled to make his racing debut later in the summer, but he was killed in a rainy highway accident just a few miles from Catamount Stadium early Saturday morning while headed to see their father, Clarence "C.A." Crouch, and help prepare the car that he owned - the Bosch/BFCP #12 Buick driven by Tom Glaser. Ricky was just a month shy of his 18th birthday when he died. Both Glaser and Robbie Crouch made the hard decision on Sunday morning to enter the Spring Green. Glaser fought a bad skip in his car's engine, and he was leading the race when he spun out after a restart with 41 laps complete, but at the same time a separate incident saw Bob Randall hit the wall to bring out the yellow flag. Glaser had the good fortune of being "saved" by the yellow flag and got his spot back in the lead. Glaser then held off Stub Fadden and Wes Rosner for the victory - his only win in Tour competition. Robbie Crouch finished fifth. After an emotional victory lane celebration, many of the drivers, teams, and officials - along with a significant portion of the sellout crowd of 9,000 fans - packed up and headed down the road about 20 minutes to Burlington for Ricky's funeral services, some still wearing their firesuits and crew uniforms. 3. I meant to say "first win" but wrote "only win". ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
