First of 8 Loudon wins for Brad Leighton and his first of 24 career
Busch North wins.

This race was originally scheduled as part of a Mother's Day weekend
doubleheader, the first year that the NHIS Busch race was not a
combination race. Instead, the Busch teams had a 200-lap race and the
North teams a 100-lap race of their own. Rain washed out the races on
Saturday, forcing them to be postponed to Mother's Day, when rain also
cancelled all track activities. The two races were rescheduled for the
Friday before the Cup race in July, where they raced under beautiful
sunny skies in the morning before Cup qualifying.

This meant that the Busch North teams would have to regroup to race on
Saturday too, but heavy rain Saturday cancelled all on-track activities,
forcing those races to be rescheduled to the Saturday before the
inaugural Craftsman Truck Series race, and setting up another
doubleheader for both the Busch North and Modified teams.

Since April's Loudon opener was rain/snowed out, it meant that the first
three Busch North appearances of 1996 at Loudon were all rain-postponed
once. As for the fourth race, the prelude to the Truck Series? Yeah, it
drizzled during the consi. They managed to get every lap in.

Dan Meservey, Jr. makes his final Busch North start but finishes 11th to
post his best-ever result on the tour.
