First, Jason Manafort drove the No. 75 car, not 76. He did, however, pilot at Tom Bolles backup car. This was Mike Christopher's only Busch North start. Andy Santerre won the pole, but started sixth after they redrew for starting spots. There were 26 cars starting the 20-lap qualifying race. Only six drivers advanced from this race to the 150 lap race. Qualifying Race finishers who advanced: 1. 30 Denny Doyle 2. 31 Mike Christopher 3. 45 Franklin Butler 4. 54 GeGe Gravel 5. 75 Jason Manafort 6. 26 Scott Bouley The 20 drivers failing to qualify (listed by car number): 0 Michael Duquette 01 Sean Gallivan 07 Richard Messier 08 Alan Whipple 5 Barney McRae 11 John Spors 12 Rit Dulac 15 Tom Carey Jr. 20 Phil Rondeau 25 John Swanson 28 Bill Penfold 40 Larry Carroll 43 Lee Sherwood 65 Dean Chrystal 73 Brian Ross 77 Bryan Wall 80 John Lesniak 85 Todd Humphreys 89 Glen Brehio 95 Tim Zock Thanks to scotiacat for some of the identifications. 2. Tom Bolles was supposed to start first, but he had mechanical problems and started 30th. So everyone on the inside line moved up one row. Race recap: First caution: Mike Christopher lasted just three laps into his series debut before crashing off the second turn. Rick Fuller also spun. Second caution: Mike Gallo spins off turn four while the No. 90 of Herb Drugg blows an engine on the back stretch on lap 13. Steve Park spins out of third place on about lap 25. There was no caution and he fell a lap down. He would fight his was back through the field and onto the lead lap. Third caution on lap 33: Not sure why. On lap 42, Tom Fox spins out of the top five. Trouble in the second turn on lap 44 when Tom Bolles and Denny Doyle get together. Jamie Aube spun through the infield. Robbie Crouch and Mike Gallo were also involved. Fourth caution, lap 45: A lap after that incident, Jeff Barry gets into Mike Stefanik while battling for second spot off the second turn, turning Stefanik into the outside wall where he got hammered by Mike Olsen. Stefanik would not continue. Barry had little damage and continued. Heavy front end damage to Olsen, but he continued. About lap 52, Dale Shaw got into Brad Bennett and sent the No. 4 spinning off turn 2. Shaw was black flagged and brought into the pits for a stop-and-go penalty. It was one of a few times Shaw was very aggressive in getting around other cars. About lap 70, Ted Christopher loses a bunch spots and heads to pit road. He reports that he lost his brakes. He would return to the track. On the same lap, Andy Santerre finally gets around Kelly Moore and motors away, nearly unchallenged the rest of the way to earn the victory. Fifth caution on lap 73, Mike Christopher and Scott Bouley spin of the fourth turn. Sixth caution on lap 91, Mike Christopher and Denny Doyle crash in turn two. Ted Christopher was also involved. About lap 105, Tom Bolles spins through the infield in turn four, no yellow. Seventh caution, with about 15-20 laps to go, Jamie Aube goes sliding through the infield and up through the first turn. Lucky for Aube, he didnā??t hit anything. Santerre cruised to victory. He said he was determined to win the race after the win was snatched away from him in the previous year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
