I remember they showed this race live on TNN, believe this was on a
Friday night. Kip Stockwell wins his debut in the Busch North Series,
and ole Stub Fadden comes home third, his final top 5 finish in the Series.

I miss the old days of the Busch North, when guys like Fadden, Dave
Dion, Kelly Moore, Mike Stefanik, Andy Santerre, Jerry Marquis, Tracy
Gordon, Brad Leighton, and Mike Olsen raced at places like Thunder Road,
Beech Ridge, Jennerstown Seekonk, Lee USA, Riverside Park, and had like
3-4 races a year each at Stafford and NHIS.

I agree with you I miss the old Busch series and the busch north series,
and NASCAR the powers that be come in and screw it up, bring it back to
the way it was please

It's so odd. Kip completely dominates in his debut to win, but posts
just one top five (a fifth) and 13 top 10s in his remaining 138 starts.

To be fair, Kip had a couple aces up his sleeve. For one, he was a
T-Road track regular competing in the Busch North's first race at T-Road
in years (probably in the days of NASCAR North). The next four drivers
in the finishing order were all guys with plenty of experience at
Thunder Road in their careers, though none had raced weekly there in a
while.

And Kip's car had a pedigree, as well. This was not just some
second-rate car cobbled together in a shed; the broadcast team said that
the Stockwells had bought their Oldsmobile from Busch North car owner
Allen Avery after the '96 season. Avery's #09 Oldsmobiles finished
second in 1995 points with driver Mike Stefanik, and won two races in
1996 with future Cup star Steve Park behind the wheel. I'm pretty sure
that this is the last NASCAR/ARCA touring win for an Oldsmobile, but
it's possible that this car was the last Olds to win anything in NASCAR
from '95 on.

At his home track in a good (and fresh) race car, Kip was a ringer. At
the rest of the tracks, Kip was just another race car driver on a
budget, and the results showed. Ultimately, he became another of those
"what if he had [name]'s cars?" questions for which we'll never have an
answer.

First caution - laps 26-29 - 05 accident turn 3
Second caution - laps 34-37 - 05 accident turn 4
Third caution - laps 71-77 - 76, 86 accident frontstretch
Fourth caution - laps 84-88 - 42, 59 accident turn 3
Fifth caution - laps 98-107 - 15, 35, 42, 47, 51, 61, 74, 86 accident
turn 3 (red flag to repair the barrier beyond turn 3. The 15 and another
unidentified car went off the track - there was no wall on the turns
until you got about 80 feet beyond the top of the pavement - and it took
a while to drag the car out.)
Sixth caution - laps 120-122 - 61 spun turn 1; 90 accident turn 3
(simultaneous incidents, the 90 slid off in the same place the 15 had
earlier in the race)
Seventh caution - laps 131-134 - 51 spun turn 4

Broadcast mentioned there were 42 entries and 34 got to compete in the
heat races that set the lineup for the main event. Not sure if the 8
listed here were the DNQ's or the drivers that failed to make the main
show from the heat races.

Ken Squier and Buddy Baker were the commentators. Steve Byrnes and Katie
Haas were the pit road reporters.
