Pre-race notes: It was the first time the East Series had visited Lee USA Speedway since 2004, when it was still known as the Busch North Series. Only Matt Kobyluck and Eddie MacDonald had previously raced on the track in this series. Series debuts for NASCAR Mexico driver Jorge Arteaga and female driver Ali Kern. First race back in the series for Marc Davis, who replaced Mackena Bell in the No. 8 Chevrolet for Revolution Racing. The track had a "Busch North Reunion" autograph session before the race. A few former drivers showed up to sign items including Bobby Dragon, Mike Rowe and Ron Lamell. The race was dedicated to the memory of Bunk Sampson. Race recap: Kevin Swindell won the pole ahead of hometrack favorite Eddie MacDonald. The two swapped the lead a number of times early on before MacDonald got into the back of Swindell, spinning the No. 9 Chevy out of the lead and into the inside wall, causing damage to the front and rear of the car. Swindell would battle back for a top 10 finish, but the spin probably cost him a win. Ryan Truex made some nice passes to get up through the field from his 16th starting position. D.J. Shaw, a homestate driver, challenged MacDonald for the lead, but Truex was right on Shaw's bumper as well. Truex tried to get a run out of turn two, but got into Shaw, causing Shaw to loop it around and bring out a caution. MacDonald and Truex would battle for the lead from there until a big crash on the backstraight brought out the red flag. The red lasted for 20-25 minutes as the crews laid down speedy dry and towed a few cars off the track. Truex was ruled the leader as they were side-by-side when the yellow waved. The tires assumingly went cold during the cool night and long red flag. Surprisingly, Truex picked the inside lane for the restart. Most of the leaders had chosen the outside for restarts. It might have cost Truex the race. With four laps to go in turn two, Truex got loose underneath MacDonald, causing both to slide up the track. That opened the door for Darrell Wallace Jr., who was involved in a crash earlier, to dive under both cars to go three-wide into the third turn. Wallace made it stick and held off Truex to score his second win in his rookie season. It was a true short track night as most of the cars in this one had fairly significant body damage, including race-winner Wallace. Arteaga ran in the top 10 most of the night and did finish 10th. Not a bad debut. Max Gresham seemed to have a decent car, but on more than one occassion, he slid up into the wall in turn two. Not sure why that happened. First career top 10 for Andrew Smith. 2. Ryan Truex gets his series-leading 6th straight top five finish. It's his 3rd top 2 finish and 4th podium finish of the season. It's also the 5th straight race he's led a lap in. Ryan and Darrell are the only two drivers with 6 top tens in the first 7 races of the season. Brett Moffitt gets his 4th straight top five finish after none in the first 3 races. Eddie MacDonald led the most laps and got his best finish of the season in 4th. Although it sounds like the win could've easily been his. Cole Whitt gets his 4th top five of the year, 3 of them podium finishes. 3. chris o posted: 06.10.2013 - 9:41 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) After a 6 year absense, Lee USA Speedway returns to the Busch North schedule, for one last time, then it was removed from the schedule. 4.
