The two were still somewhat on the edge of out of control after they crossed the finish line. Elliott's runner up finish is his best to date in the K&N series. He pulled it off despite a serious tire rub in the closing laps. LaJoie finished 3rd with the only Ford in the field. He took the lead late only to have the final caution reset the field and wasn't able to get around Moffitt again as Elliott came into contention, had he won he would have ended Ford's losing streak in this series dating back to 2005. He didn't appreciate the way Moffitt 'ran dirty' and implied there may be payback in the future. Ryan Gifford was in contention at the end too until he got a bad restart and was spun by Elliott, who apologized after the race for it. The contact is what caused Elliott's previously mentioned tire rub. Points leader Darrell Wallace, Jr. had a rough night including a spin that made the race a green-white-checker. If it is any consolation he did finish in the top-10 of the Denny Hamlin charity race later in the evening. 3. 10andJoe posted: 04.26.2012 - 11:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) >He didn't appreciate the way Moffitt 'ran dirty' and implied there may be payback in the future. Sounds like a LaJoie through and through. I missed this one, unfortunatly - I barely remembered there was racing tonight in time to flip on Speed and see the green of the Hamlin race, oops. Looks like I'll have to aim to get up in time to catch the 8:30am reair! 4. cjs3872 posted: 04.26.2012 - 11:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Like father, like son. Bill Elliott got pushed around qutie a bit during his career, especially by Dale Earnhardt, and now it's begun to happen to his son Chase. Also, a great run by Kyle Larson, who I believe has a development contract with Chip Ganassi. Larson contended for the lead most of the race, and was about to take the lead when one of the numerous cautions during the second half of the race jumbled the field. And what was it about the high number of offspring of racing champions that raced, both in this race, and in Denny Hamlin's invitational race that followed. Aside from Chase Elliott, Bill's son, you have Ryan Blaney, Dave's son, Chad Boat, Billy's son, Nelson Piquet, Jr., who's father Nelson, Sr., a 3-time World Champion, is one of the most forgotten great racing champions over the last couple of generations, Pietro Fittipaldi, the grandson of another racing legend, Emerson Fittipaldi raced tonight in the invitational race, and Corey LaJoie, the son of two-time Nationwide series champion Randy LaJoie. And there may have been others I've forgotten about, but names that dominated the racing landscape of the 1980s and early 90s, some of which have been forgotten by time, are returning in this decade. 5. There's no way any race will top that one this weekend. 7. As soon as I saw Chase Elliott's tire rub, I thought he was done, he was gonna blow the tire and hit the wall. But he nearly won the damn thing! Great racing for the lead in the final laps! 10. However, I did not mention Chad Little's son because Little was not a champion. 12. Look at his qualifying results from Indycar in the 90's, poles and front row starts week in and week out. 15. He's driven for 4 different teams since 2009 and has now won a race with all of them: Andy Santerre Motorsports in '09, JGR in '10, MWR in '11 and now Hattori Racing Enterprises this season. (Santerre works for the team). Chase Elliott finished a career-best 2nd, his 4th top 5 in 15 series starts, and now leads the points standings thanks to top 10's in each of the first 3 races of the season. Corey LaJoie finished in the top 3 for a 2nd straight race, his 7th top 3 finish in 22 series starts (no wins). Kyle Larson picked up his first career top 5 finish in his 3rd series start, and started on the front row for a 2nd consecutive race. After just 1 top 5 in his rookie season in 2011, Brandon Gdovic already has 2 top 5's in the first 3 races of 2012. Ben Kennedy had just 1 top 10 in his first 13 series starts, a 3rd place finish at Winston-Salem last season, but joins Chase Elliott as the only drivers with top 10's in each of the first 3 races of the season. Rookie Bryan Ortiz got his first top 10 in his 3rd series start. Since finishing 28th in the season opener, Eddie MacDonald has back-to-back top 10 finishes to jump from 28th to 9th in points. Sergio Pena picked up his first top 10 of the season, after 20th and 29th places to start 2012. 15-year-old Michael McGuire has top 10 finishes in each of his first two series starts, 8th and 10th. Darrell Wallace Jr.'s Richmond misfortunes (28th) plummets him to 11th in points, 25 points out of the lead. Fortunately the East schedule expanded to 14 races this season so he's got 11 more to make up the ground. 16. He's run very strong and continues to improve. He's just had some bad luck late in races. His performance in his Nationwide debut the next night prove that he'll be here for a while. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
