Jesse Little starts deep in the field but races up to finish 3rd, it's both his first top-5 and top-10 in the series. 3. The surgery was something that he had been putting off for close to 10 years because of his motorcycle racing commitments. Now that he no longer has those commitments, he's going to have that surgery. 5. Pastrana, Conley, and Steven Legendre all did not return for the makeup date. 6. I guess they had been going at it a while...its racing...hell even Jeff Gordon tried to fight Jeff Burton 9. It's his 4th consecutive top 2 finish, a streak that includes back-to-backs and 3 total. He's gone from 4th in the standings, 32 points out, to a 6 point lead with 1 race to go. BTW him spinning out Brett Moffitt for the win was a 4 point swing in his favor as far as the championship goes. Chase Elliott gets his 3rd top 5 in the last 4 races and 2nd runner-up finish of the season, but his first top 3 finish in the last 6 races. He now has as many top 5's (6) this season as he had top 10's in 2011. 15-year-old Jesse Little (who shares a birthday with me!) gets his first top 5 and top 10 in his 6th career East Series start. He had a best of 11th and an 18.2 average finish in his first 5 starts. Kyle Larson picks up his 11th top 10 of the season, tied for the series lead, and 4th consecutive top 5 finish. But he's still managed to lose 16 points to Corey LaJoie in the standings over that stretch. Brandon Gdovic has his first top 5 in 6 races, but picks up his 9th top 10 of the year (4 in 11 starts in 2011); over the last 4 he's gone from 5th to 7th in the standings, but sits 12 points back of 5th with 1 race to go in the year (15th in pts in 2011). Bryan Ortiz has 6 top 10's in the last 7 races. 5 of them are 6th place finishes, including each of the last 3 races. But he's gone 8 straight races without a top 5. Sam Hunt gets his first career top 10 in his 13th career start with a 7th place finish. His prior best was 11th (17.7 avg fin in first 12 races of 2012). Brett Moffitt picked up his series-leading 4th pole of 2012, but settled for 8th, his 10th top 10 of the season, after being spun out late. Moffitt has led 260 laps over the last 3 races but has just a 14.0 average finish over that span. His 768 laps led this year (41.2% of the laps ) are the most by any driver in K&N Pro East/Busch North since Ricky Craven led 1,177 of 3,691 laps run in the series in 1991 (31.9%). Sergio Pena matches his 2011 season total, but in 1 more start, with his 7th top 10 of the year. But Pena tied for the series lead with 3 wins last year, while his best finish in 2012 is 3rd. Eddie MacDonald's 11th top 10's tie him with Kyle Larson for the series lead, but 9 of them have been between 8th and 10th and his best finish this year is 5th. 10. The #07 team is appealing, but if it isn't overturned then that'll pretty much cost him the championship. If that's the case, then Kyle Larson will become the 3rd rookie to ever win the K&N Pro East Series championship with a 6th place finish in the finale at Phoenix. I hate that they didn't DNQ him, like the series has done in the past. That would've not only cost him 29 points to Larson and put him back 23 points, but Chase Elliott would've been credited with the win and been within just 3 points of LaJoie for 3rd in the standings. 12. The penalty may not have been for Corey LaJoie's dirty deed, but it does show that stuff like that will, in some way, catch up to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
