Another win by our 2016 RSOTY Todd Gilliland and BMR team.
Thanks to Patriot Motorsports Group. With the 4 cars of the team, the
starting field was correct (17 cars).
Great run by Andrew Engberson in the 1st half if the race.

Patriot Motorsports makes their East series debut (I think) Bringing
everyone favorite Backmarker Jessie Iwuji, Stafford Smith and Pinty's
veteran Noel Dowler.

No, Patriot Motorsports Group already rode earlier this year with Jesse
Iwuji (New Smyrna) and Salvatore Iovino (New Smyrna & Greenville) in the
East Series.

It's crazy that Todd Gilliland has an average finish of 4.9 through 7
races and is still losing to Harrison Burton in the points race.
Burton's average finish? 3.1. Both of these guys will be stars in the
future.

The race was crazy because the track is so abrasive. Several drivers
drifted back during the first half while Hunter Baize had a big lead.
After the break, Baize and others got swallowed up on their cheeed up
tires. Todd Gilliland looked to be cruising to an easy win until the
last lap. In turn three on the last lap, several cars crashed in front
of Todd. He slammed on the brakes and made light contact with one of the
crashed cars. He emerged from the mess and took the checkered flag
seconds later.

The K&N East/ex-Busch North series makes its first-ever visit to the
Great Lakes State for its inaugural race at historic Berlin Raceway
where some many great Michigan racers cut their teeth on the way up the
ladder.

Gilliland hung back and saved his tired through the first half of the
race and proved to be a winning strategy.

This ultimately was the NASCAR Busch North/K&N East Series' only race
ever held in Michigan. This race replaced Berlin Raceway's traditional
ARCA race and the event reverted to that series in 2018.
