Teams with the means to do so were asked to run throwback paint schemes if possible with several old school looks being brought back for this event. Ironically with all the classic paint schemes the race was won by Harrison Burton and his #12 Dex Imaging Toyota which featured a decidedly modern "sponsor on the door, number on the quarter panel" scheme. Reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby made his K&N East debut here and finished in the top-5 driving on of the retro cars. His #43 had a gold-and-black scheme to replicate the old #51 Coors Extra Gold entry "Magic Shoes" Mike McLaughlin drove in the early 1990s when McLaughlin made the jump from modifeds to full-bodied stockers. Jared Irvan had one of the more notable throwback paint schemes even if it wasn't Busch North inspired. He made his first start of the 2017 season in a bright yellow #4 Toyota done up with his current sponsors in the style of his father Ernie Irvan's 1991 Daytona 500-winning Kodak Morgan-McClure Racing entry. Ernie was present for this one to watch Jared race. 4. Mike posted: 07.09.2017 - 1:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Third straight pole for Chase Purdy. 5. His #16 NAPA entry paid tribute the one the late Stub Fadden ran in this series from 1994 to 1998. Ruben Garcia, Jr. switched numbers from #6 to #03 for this race. His white and blue throwback look honored the Telmex #03 Rogelio Lopez drove to victory at Nashville in 2007 when he became the first Mexican NASCAR racer to win an oval race. Garcia's number swap opened up Chase Cabre to run the #6 instead of his usual #4. Cabre's car for this one took advantage of the opportunity to run a retro white look honoring the Southern Biscuit car that Tommy Houston had so much success racing in the old NASCAR Busch Series. Modified Tour racer Ryan Preece, in his first K&N East start of the season, had his Whelen Engineering #31 entry was painted in the company's famous red-and-scheme that has adorned so many race cars over the years in multiple divisions. 6. Fittingly McDonald's entry, as noted earlier the only one with an old metal body in this one, was painted in a scheme to honor four-time Busch North champion Andy Santerre with Santerre being present to watch it race. It was a unique choice, when Santerre won the championship in 2005 and retired MacDonald was the one who won the last race of the season. Polesitter Chase Purdy and the #17 team had announced they planned to run a black-and-white scheme for this one in the style of the Skoal #7 Dale Shaw had success with back in the 1990s. Ultimately it didn't come together and he ran his normal scheme. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
