It's kind of neat his first win comes on a road course, his background is as a big block modified dirt track racer before he moved into NASCAR. Fittingly for Max, it comes at the Glen where his father Mike McLaughlin won in 1997, Max is from North Carolina but his family has northern roots. 5. The first East race she missed was due to ARCA Pocono (how was she allowed to run that when she was still 17?). This race at the Glen is the second East race she's missed. 12. rm posted: 08.04.2019 - 9:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) She's full-time in the West Series, running select East races. You can run at Pocono at 17 years old, that's why she was allowed. Several drivers ran both ARCA races at 17 this year, and Chandler Smith ran the second Pocono race just a couple weeks after turning 17. 13. I'm not sure if the #08 even took the green. 14. JFM posted: 08.07.2019 - 10:32 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) I miss the Busch North Series. 15. Dylan Murry's #7 Ford and Tanner Gray's #15 Toyota were also older body cars. 16. RaceFanX posted: 08.07.2019 - 11:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was "Mad Max" McLaughlin's first-ever road course race but he had them covered. His #1 Camry was so dominant in the first half of the race the NBCSN announcers were joking the only modification any of the teams could make at the halfway break in the hope of beating him would be to put a Cup Series engine in their car and hope for the best. The only weak spot came on the restart from the halfway break where McLaughlin fell back to third when the green flag dropped only to storm back up and retake the lead before the lap was over. Mike McLaughlin attended this race and was there to see his son's big win. Rain initially wasn't forecast but some teams were ready for it. Sam Mayer finished third in a #21 Chevrolet that ran the whole race with its windshield wiper already installed just in case. When the rain and lightning came it ultimately soaked the track and with more rain forecast they choose not to restart in the wet so the race was called. 17. rm posted: 08.09.2019 - 7:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It wasn't a great day for the McAnally bunch. Brandon Jones lost an engine and a transmission in practice, only allowing him to run 4 laps. He didn't make a qualifying attempt and went on to have further engine issues still during the race. Derek Kraus could only muster a 9th place finish, dropping him to third in the East standings. 18. The caution for lightning came out right after that, ruining any chance that Herbst had at attempting to get back into the top ten. Strange but true: Herbst has competed in two NASCAR road course races this year and was spun by another driver late in both races, resulting in Herbst being the last car on the lead lap in both races. He ran the Pinty's opener up at Mosport and was spun out in the closing laps there, and suffered the same fate back across the border at the Glen. 20. He managed to beat a lot of other, much better funded cars by just keeping his nose clean. 21.
