Former Southwest Tour champion Dan Press came into this race with a big 73-point lead on former Northwest Tour champion Garrett Evans only to see his championship hopes take a big hit when his black #25 had mechanical problems doom his hopes of a good finish. The polesitting Evans meanwhile turned in an incredible run to bring his famous blue #64 home second and steal the championship from Press by just three points; had he finished third instead Press would have earned the crown. It would be Evans' third Northwest Tour championship but it also ended up being Press' final race in the series. Away from the championship fight Ron Eaton claimed his second win of the year by passing Ernie Cope and holding off Evans at the finish. It was his first Northwest Tour win at Tri-City since 1988. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
