Ron Eaton barely led 30 green-flag laps, but in his time out front he had put all but the top five cars a lap down before he blew his engine. By comparison, 12 cars finished the race on the lead lap in this (pre-lucky dog era) race, proving just how torrid Eaton's pace had been. Wilbur Bruce led the most laps on the day and retook the lead when Eaton dropped out, pulling away until a flat tire forced him to pit with 20 to go. Kevin Hamlin assumed the lead with Jim Walker hot on his tail. Hamlin was never able to pull very far away from Walker until the last lap, at which point another car lost an engine and starting spewing oil that caused Walker to go for a spin. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
