There were "border crossing problems" for this race, hence the low
amount of entries in the race.

Add to that ^^ the fact that drivers were allowed to bring only their
car and five tires into Canada.

It's always weird to see an American series race outside the United
States with a field that somehow still consists of only Americans. This
was the West tour's first race at Western Speedway and while there were
hiccups here the track became a recurring staple of the tour through the
early 1980s.
