This was the series' final race at Sierra Mesa National Raceway which appears to have closed late in the following year. 2. A hole developed in the radiator in the first couple of laps. A 5/16th hex nut tore through the left corner when it got kicked up. Otherwise, Clint was on a mission that day. He qualed 14, but took off at the start and picked up three cars on the first lap, and two more by the third or fourth. He got one more around Lap 8 or 9 and was running 7th or 8th when it overheated a few laps later. We were done. He had a fast hot rod that weekend. I think only Hershel and maybe Elder were quicker in the first practice! That was a fun day crewing for that little team. Even better, et my wife-to-be Dolly up there partying a little the afternoon before over at Lake Ellis with Don Graham and his guys. I liked pretty feet and Dolly showed up, no kidding now, in daisy dukes-type shorts, a Wynn's t-shirt, pink sun visor, and little red size 6 sandals with hot pink toe nail polish. Prettiest little brunette in Northern Cal. The guys teased me because they knew what I was checking out down there! Dolly passed on in 2010 right after a Sprint car race over at Marysville Raceway Park that had gotten her excited and her heart gave out. She was only 5'1 and 110 lbs, but it didn't matter. She had smoked too long. We had 33 good years together. And I still have a picture of us at with Hutchins car just before the race. Pink toes and all! Great memory. 3. So many people are involved in so many race weekends around the country every year, and many have great stories to tell. Thanks for sharing yours. 4.
