Jimmy Insolo starts 19th but charges through the field to lead the most laps and score the win in the West series' return to Sears Point. Insolo's 19th-place start remains the furthest back any winner has started at Sonoma as of 2015. (He was so good in 1978 he must have just had some qualifying issue that led to that bad start) This race came right after a race on the dirt at Ascot Park. How weird to go from a dirt oval to a paved road course in the span of two races. R.I.P. Bill Baker 4. Alex posted: 01.17.2016 - 12:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (3) It's not odd, really. It's a testament to the variety of tracks on the schedule, and keep in mind that the West regs were the Winston Cup's! 5. Somehow I can't picture F1 at Eldora, IndyCar at Talladega, or the World of Outlaws at Watkins Glen but stock cars can run almost everywhere and put on a good show...excepting some street circuits that are literally too tight for the stockers to make the turns (Monaco comes to mind). I miss when Winston Cup, Winston West, and ARCA all used the same rules, give or take a few adjustments. 6. Take a look at the V8 Thunder Cars in Denmark, they run a street circuit in Copenhagen that is tighter than MACAU at a few points. 7. V8 Thunder Cars, no). Those cars look like they corner on a dime. I know you can do Monaco in a full-bodied race car, the BMW ProCars raced there, but those were sports cars not stock cars. 8. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 01.19.2016 - 2:58 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) For me the best street road race track ever in a NASCAR competition is the GP3R at Trois-Rivieres, Québec. All NCATS races each year was very funny and competitive with a lot of drama. 9. It is part of a Historics festival. @7 Porsche Supercup still runs Monaco if I recall correctly. Those things corner very well though. @8 Trois Rivieres is amazing. It's also entertaining to watch the support events. They range from Quebec-based late models to the Canadian Touring Car Championship under the lights. 10. Unpredictable. 11. zuel660 posted: 08.07.2019 - 7:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Anyone know what model(s) of Pontiacs were being used in this race? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
