Roy Smith bested Bill Schmitt and Hershel McGriff to pick up his only win of the season on his way to the West series championship. Oddly this was the only race all year won by a driver who was competing for the West series title; only six drivers would run every race this season (a side effect of having to qualify for several Cup combination races no doubt) and they were all locked out of victory lane after this as visiting racers and Cup drivers won all of the season's remaining events. 2. The IndyCar race saw Johnny Rutherford lap the field as he bested Tom Sneva to win in the "Yellow Submarine" Pennzoil Chaparral-Cosworth. 3. That would be really fun for the fans and would probably be good for both series (help bring more open-wheel fans to stock car racing, and vice versa.) It could also make for more drivers trying to cross over, which could be very interesting. 4. possum posted: 06.25.2020 - 7:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @3 - doubt we would on ovals. Whichever series goes second has problems with the rubber laid down by the other series tires. And with NASCAR's recent love of traction compound that's another issue for the Indycars, since they don't respond well to it at all. Doing a combo weekend on one of the road courses could be interesting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
