Only NASCAR race at Caesar's Palace

Held in conjunction with a CART race the previous day

The Winston West series takes a gamble with a race on the temporary
"Distorted Oval" course set up in the parking lot of the legendary
Caesar's Palace casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Jim Robinson hits the
jackpot in the process as he bests Bill Schmitt to claim the first of
his two "road course" wins in West series action. There were only 10
Winston West races in 1983, and two of those were combination races at
Riverside with the Cup series, with Robinson winning three of them.
