Dave Despain and Dale Inman were in the STP Pit Communication Center. This was a combination race with the Winston Cup series. Jim Robinson edged out Hershel McGriff for the Winston West title, his third consecutive championship. Four drivers came into this race with a chance at the title. Along with Robinson and McGriff, Ruben Garcia and Glen Steurer had legit shots at the championship. Steurer was the highest finishing West regular in 11th, one lap off the pace. As a result, he was given the full 50 points for the West win. Robinson's 12th place finish, which translated to second among the West drivers, combined with McGriff's poor race, helped him to clinch the title. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
