Terry Petris' second here was his best finish in Winston West competition.

Jim Robinson starts his title defense out right as he outbattles Terry
Petris in the closing laps to claim his 11th and final Winston West
victory. This was Robinson's only win at Sonoma and it had to be a
refreshing one after he finished second in this race in both 1984 and
1985. Two of Robinson's West series wins came on road or street courses.

This was not a great day for John Krebs and the #33 Skoal Bandit team.
Krebs blew a motor in the opening laps and finished well down the
running order. His teammate Vince Bellotti meanwhile has his only
Winston West start last less than a lap before an engine failure put him
on the sidelines (I would not be surprised if that was a start-and-park
though).
