There is a picture of Derrike Cope's #79 from this race on his website on the Winston Cup pre-1988 page. 2. Burl H. posted: 09.22.2017 - 5:45 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) I was there. It was an exciting event. A lot of people thought it might become like a Northwest version of Long Beach. Too bad it did not. It was a neat circuit and the racing was good. 3. Fittingly it was fan favorite Northwest veteran racer Hershel McGriff who took the victory as the championship-bound racer bested Washington's own Derrike Cope for the checkered flag. McGriff of course knew a thing or two about racing on public roads, he won the inaugural Carrera Panamericana across Mexico in 1950 (more than three decades before this one). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
