McGriff was penalized to the rear of the field at the halfway mark due to his crew working on the car before NASCAR allowed them to. Bill Schmitt fell two laps off the lead just after halfway thanks to a cut tire. He made both laps up but ran out of time to chase down Sedgwick. 2.
