Rick Carelli wins the first Winston West race held at Coos Bay Speedway
since 1978. The High Plains Drifter started on the pole and led
flag-to-flag.

Although Coos Bay remains open to this day this is also the West series
last race to date at the track. Given that Coos Bay has since been
converted into a dirt track it's unlikely they ever will.

I was there on a crew. The two things I recall about this race, Carelli
was on rails and was not going to be denied. And my wife's Sister,
Jennie, who came up with us for this one and had never been to a race,
met her future husband up in the stands.
