Second and final Winston West race in the brief career of Chris Trickle.
An unsolved drive-by shooting less than 4 months later left him with
fatal injuries.

First real Winston West start for ARCA ace Tim Steele, the second was
also his career best finish.

Also the first true Winston West start for future Daytona 500 winner
Michael Waltrip.
Both Waltrip and Steele had previously run companion races but never run
for Winston West points

Why did Jeff Krogh miss this race? He was the points leader coming in.
Did he get hurt at Phoenix?

The West series makes its first-ever visit to the Las Vegas Motor
Speedway, this one one of the first races at the track after it was
completed (an IRL race about two months took place while it was still
under construction). It was a companion event to a Truck series race.

Nevada racer Darrel Krentz makes his Winston West debut and finishes
8th. His Ford was the same one A.J. Foyt ran in the first Brickyard 400
back in 1994, they had bought the car to mothball it but after using it
as a showcar for two years they decided to race it here... They
destroyed in crash less than a year later in the first West series race
at Fontana.

Bobby Gerhart crosses over from ARCA for his first Winston West start
and claims his only top-10 finish in the series.

I wish the series would still come to bigger tracks like Las Vegas as
standalone races. I get why they don't, though.

There's a couple of errors in the starting positions. Both Dennis Dyer
and Rich DeLong are credited with starting 30th. No one is credited with
starting 26th or 31st. And Michael Cochran, who DNS apparently started
'0th.'
