eric holmes leads a handful of laps in his winston west debut. now a
champion three times over and counting.

Sean Woodside wins the penultimate race of the season, keeping the
points race tight as he knocked off almost half Butch Gilliland's lead
going into the last race of the season at Las Vegas.

First caution - 19 accident turn 2
Second caution - 78 accident turn 2
Third caution - 09 spun turn 4
Fourth caution - 19 spun backstretch
Fifth caution - debris backstretch
Sixth caution - 3, 4, 7, 23 accident turn 2
Seventh caution - 00, 4, 19, 29 accident backstretch (Wakida, already
nearly a hundred laps down due to multiple trips to the garage with
power issues, hit the inside rumblestrips dodging Gaylord and finally
lost his engine, causing Kann to spin in the fluid Wakida dropped)
Eighth caution - 71 spun turn 4
Ninth caution - 07, 37 accident turn 3; 25, 63 accident turn 2

For the final caution, Woodside dumped Gunselman to take the lead over
in turn 3. Caution came out just after the leaders passed the line, so
the top 4 - now top 3, as Gunselman was busy righting himself over in
turn 3 - raced back to the line for another lap. Over in turn 2, Culver
and Holmes were locked in a battle for what would be second place when
Culver ran over Holmes - literally. Culver got down on the rumblestrips
in an ill-timed attempt to get inside of Holmes and the two touched
wheels, sending Culver up and over the left front of Holmes' car. They
had to be thankful for the long green flag run earlier in the race, I
don't know how either of them finished on the lead lap, especially
Holmes with a destroyed nose.

There was actually just one long caution period from laps 158-166 for
the fifth caution, not two individual yellows; this also gives the race
9 cautions instead of 10.

To the rear - 3 - backup car

3 owner - Davy Lee Liniger

Liniger had to go to a backup car for this race and without one
available, he turned to Larry Gunselman and bought his team's backup car.

Billy Kann did not have a good night, crashing three times before his
car finally gave out late in the going with a mechanical problem.

Larry Naston and Dan Hubbard were the commentators. Barry Dodson was the
sole pit road reporter.
