RaceFanX posted: 11.04.2017 - 4:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The ex-Bahari Pontiac Grand Prix Gary Smith wiped out in a crash during this race had quite the history. The car was initially intended for Johnny Benson, Jr. to race in 1996 Brickyard 400 but after testing and modifications the team used another car and sold it to Dick Midgley who shipped it down under for Jim Richards to race it in the Australian NASCAR series (I have no idea if that's the car Richards qualified outside pole with at Suzuka in 1997 but it wouldn't surprise me since supposedly it was the only Pontiac Grand Prix of that the 1996-2002 generation to make it down under). Midgley eventually shipped the car back to the United States with Gary Smith taking the wheel here for what proved to be a one-off deal; the Grand Prix was totaled out by its wreck with the Big Daddy's BBQ racer parted out and scrapped afterward. 3.
