Steve Portenga picks up his first Winston West win in about two years
and his first on a superspeedway. This would be his only win of the 2003
season.

Brandon Whitt starts on the outside front row and leads a nice chunk of
the race, but finishes down the running order, as he makes his lone
Winston West start.

This was supposed to be the first of two Winston West races at Fontana
this year. The tour was to return for their season finale in October on
the undercard for a CART race but both the open wheel and stock car
races were cancelled due to wildfires in the area that fall.
