The West series comes to the current Auto Club Speedway and runs on the
track's infield road course instead of the oval. This is thier only race
to date on this configuration.

2. I think it has something to do with drivers at the age of 15. NASCAR
has one rule in CWTS that says drivers at the age of 16 can't compete on
the ovals longer than 1 mile (they can still run on the road course)
till their 18th birthday. So I wouldn't be surprised that removing all
those ovals longer than 1 mile has something to do with it in order that
those youngsters could run the whole schedule for the title.

I was at this race. It was an awesome event. It was ran in conjunction
with an historic Ferrari race. The grandstands weren't open so you had
to watch from the infield or the pit road Suites. Would be cool to see
it ran again.

As of 2019 this is the last NASCAR West race at the California
Speedway/Auto Club Speedway in any capacity. The series stopped running
the oval after 2006 and moved the event to the road course for 2007 only
before discontinuing it altogether.

Race shortened to 42 laps due to darkness (from 45 laps)

The race was originally scheduled to be 45 laps on the 2.8 mile layout,
but after the practice sessions NASCAR changed the race to be on the 2.4
mile layout - hence the original "125" in the race name. Right side tire
wear was given as one of the reasons for the change, roval tires for a
stock car can be a tricky thing to figure out. The drivers commented
that the tires used during the race were very hard and had little grip,
but the wear was much better than it had been during pre-race practice.
