McGriff ran this race in part because he won the previous West series
race at Portland International Raceway back in 1986, he figured that
made him the defending champion.

Terry Fisher also returns to the West series after a long absence, this
was Fisher's first start since 1996 (more than six years before
McGriff's last start).

This was also Fisher's last start to date.
