Paulie Harraka finished 5th in his first West Series start of the year. Dave Smith makes his season debut as well, finishing 10th. Greg Pursley has his worst result of the season, finishing 21st, 3 laps down. Pursley led 10 laps early on, but gave up the lead to make a pit stop, and quickly faded back after that. Daryl Harr spun out on the final lap while running around the 9th position, finishing 14th. 2. Anonymous posted: 06.22.2013 - 11:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Nice field 3. In fact, he took the points lead away from Self by passing him for the lead on the race track with 14 laps to go, which were the only laps that Thorn led all race. Speaking of Self, his impressive 3-race winning streak finally came to an end today in Sonoma. Oddly enough, his winning streak was bookended by both of his championship rival Derek Thorn's victories. I'm very interested in seeing whether or not Self's 15th place finish at Stockton 99 Speedway from earlier this season winds up costing him the championship, as that is his only non-top five finish of the season thus far, and even with three victories, he is still behind Thorn in the points. Both drivers have been very consistent this season (aside from Self's aforementioned 15th place finish), so it may take a few more victories for Self if he wants to win this championship. Right in between those two in the running order is Cameron Hayley, whose 2nd place finish gives him his 5th top five finish of the season, tying his season total from last year in nine fewer races. He's still eyeing his first victory in the series, which may be right around the corner as he has led more laps in the past two races (108) than any other K&N West driver. He's just 11 points out of the points lead and at this point is the only threat to break-up the Self/Thorn show currently taking place in this series, and a win and the ensuing bonus points that would follow could certainly put Hayley right into the thick of the championship battle. He's got consistency on his side (higher average finish than Michael Self), now he just needs wins. Four-time K&N West winner David Mayhew made his first start in the series since the season opener at Phoenix, where he brought home a solid 4th place finish. One day before making his Sprint Cup Series debut at Sonoma Raceway, 3-time K&N West winner Paulie Harraka makes his first series start in two years, finishing an impressive 5th place for his Bill McAnally-owned team. It was his first top five finish since Roseville back in October 2010; a season which saw Harraka finish a career high 3rd place in the points. Greg Pursley finishes outside the top ten for the first time all season, as he winds up finishing in 21st place three laps down after starting from the front row and leading 10 laps. Pursley certainly didn't need this finish, as he's now 33 points out of the lead in the points standings, which in this series is most likely more than a full race's worth of points. Two of my all-time favorite K&N West drivers, Jim Inglebright and Austin Cameron made their first starts of the season in this race. Both drivers finished on the lead lap after having to start from the rear of the field for their respective part-time K&N West teams. K&N East veteran driver Dale Quarterley made an infrequent K&N West start, finishing in 28th place, his worst K&N West finish in eight career starts. In fact, it was his first non-top ten finish since his series debut back in 2004 at Phoenix. Camping World Truck Series driver Brennan Newberry also made an infrequent stop in the K&N West Series, and also made his first NASCAR start on a road course, finishing 30th after overheating. Veteran road racer Chris Cook made his first K&N West start since 2006. First career top ten finish Kelly Admiraal (7th). Also, best career finish for Tim Spurgeon (11th). First career starts for 40-year old Davide Amaduzzi and 19-year old Ryan Reed, who finished 25th and 34th, respectively. 5. startandparkfan posted: 06.23.2013 - 8:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) No Hershel McGriff :( 6.
