The 2016 K&N West season kicks off with possibly the series' final visit
to the popular Irwindale Speedway. The proverbial wrecking ball and
bulldozers are waiting in the background as Irwindale is scheduled to
close in late July so it can be demolished to make way for a proposed
outlet mall.

Todd Gilliland's second K&N West start ends just his first, in victory
lane. It could be a special win given Irwindale was the only track where
Todd ever raced against his grandfather Butch and his father David in
the same race (a late model event back in July 2014).

Takuma Koga returns to NASCAR West series competition for the first time
in nine and a half years.

Any word what the status is of the track? They ran longer than what was
said so maybe there's hope.

Think they've been given a new lease for 2017. Track was known as the
Irwindale Event Center for 2016 and beyond.

Trevor Huddleston makes his K&N West debut on his home track at
Irwindale, claiming a solid top-10 run doing a one-off in a Ford from
Bob Bruncati's potent stable. This was Huddleston's only start of 2016
but racing locally he would go on to win the NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series' California state championship that season.

Dave Burns and Parker Kligerman were the commentators. Heather DeBeaux
was the sole pit road reporter.
