With the recent success of the Truck series' dirt track race at Eldora its nice to see the West series get to try something a little different. 3. NASCAR Xfinity series racer Christopher Bell and ARCA points leader/former Stadium Super Trucks champion Sheldon Creed also crossover for this special race. 4. rm posted: 09.12.2018 - 12:31 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I'm thinking that when they hit the track, you will find that 25 is plenty of cars for a half mile dirt track. Especially if it's K&N no less. 5. The tour ran 10 races on the superspeedway between 1996 and 2002 and has also run seven races from 1994 to 2012 on the track's Bullring, the paved short track. The Bullring is off Turn 2 of the main oval while the Dirt Track is off Turn 4. 10. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 09.13.2018 - 6:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #55 = Jefferson Pitts Racing 11. They didn't hit the track in the three-hour practice session and didn't attempt a qualifying lap either. 13. Christopher Bell put on a show for the fans, as the NASCAR Xfinity regular got caught up in a turn 1, lap 1 crash and the crew simply removed the hood of the car making repairs. Bell then rallied through the field and took the lead with like 23 laps to go! But he ultimately was tagged with a restart violation with nine laps left for jumping the restart, taking him out of contention. The early laps were utter chaos as the dry track created suffocating clouds of dust that were impossible to see anything in. Officials had to red flag the race after the second yellow in the first 10 laps to water down the track, which made it better. 20. Creed is no stranger to racing without pavement, he previously raced in the Dakar Rally down in South America back in 2016. 25. Hopefully he can find a good truck ride for next year. 26. Hailie Deegan's team got a little clever with there's and adding some graphics simulating teeth to the outer edge's of her #19 Toyota's extra grill. 27. JSPorts posted: 09.14.2018 - 10:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Running those grills is a smart idea on dirt. And it's pretty cool to see those graphics on there, nice touch. But now sponsors will see that and want to plaster logos on there, too. 28. Hailie raced pro lites last year in LOORRS and had multiple podiums and missed out on rookie of the year i think she was 6th in points the other rookie Polvoorde got like 5th i think or something but sheldon has titles in pro lite too its good to see that background having success in nascar like short track and dirt track 30. George Andrews posted: 09.20.2018 - 9:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Regarding car counts, the standard in K&N West is for a 26 car field; I was told by a NASCAR official that 26 cars were entered, but one team had to drop out the week of the race. ( The # 97 car showed up late Wednesday with a different number; it was never even fired up in the pits either day. It would have been the 25th car. ) Sonoma and past Cup companion races would have an enlarged field to accommodate Cup rookies who use the West race as an additional practice session. I was at the track both days; the following are my observations: Sheldon Creed & Christopher Bell were the only " dirt-track ringers " in the race, as Hallie Deegan has run the West all season... Buddy Shepherd in the JPR car # 27 was a potential winner, but like others was caught up in the big Lap 1 - Turn 1 wreck... I thought the heat races were unnecessary, as all 25 cars present were assured a start... Though I spotted Mike Helton and Brett Bodine in the pits Thursday, ( along with new K&N tech official Tony Glover ), I was expecting more attendance from Cup owners/drivers/crew chiefs... Track prep left a lot to be desired. The 1st time all 24 cars were on-track was at race start; the dust was BAD!!! Will be watching the delayed broadcast Friday in NBCSN to see if / how the talking heads gloss over track conditions and dust... 43.
