Takuma Koga now showing what may be engine smoke as well. 10. rm posted: 08.08.2020 - 10:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Koga has wrecked on the backstretch, he's wound up backed up onto a tire barrier in the infield. Koga took a tap coming out of turn 2 from Jesse Love and is now the reason for the fourth caution of the evening 11. rm posted: 08.08.2020 - 10:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well it was more than a tap - Love has pretty similar damage to what Souza incurred earlier, we'll see if it makes a difference. 12. rm posted: 08.08.2020 - 10:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Love and Huddleston get into it on the restart, while Koga (and Love) continue to puff smoke on occasion. Whole lot of bent-up racecars for only having 11 in the field! Fifth caution out for another spin by Hillis Jr., they'll restart with less than 20 laps left. Teammates Trotter and Scelzi waged a brief war for 2nd last restart, time to see if either McAnally driver has something for the Bruncati car of Perkins. 13. rm posted: 08.08.2020 - 10:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Multicar incident over in turn 3, the last-place car of Todd Souza - 12 laps down! - spins out Holley Hollan who was on the lead lap in 6th. Closing in on the 10 to go mark now, Gio Scelzi has re-emerged in 2nd place as Perkins' latest challenger. 14. Solid performance by Gracie Trotter ends with a P2 finish. 15. derry posted: 08.08.2020 - 10:26 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) love certainly... drove like somethin today 16. Top six were on the lead lap, 7th-place Hollan was a lap down after her late wreck, while the bottom four of Koga, Burgess, Hillis Jr. and Souza were 4+ laps down after on-track run-ins. Miles better than the Evergreen race, if for nothing else besides the hilarity factor of 11 cars managing to bring out six cautions + another spin that didn't warrant a yellow Fingers crossed that more than 11 show up at Colorado, though based on the car counts there over the last seven races being 19 or fewer all but once isn't a great omen 18. Impressive that Love was able to bring it home with a decent result. 19. rm posted: 08.08.2020 - 11:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Hillis Jr. ran his neon orange composite Chevy at Evergreen but was back in his old gen-4 Toyota for this race. TTaylor944 posted: 08.20.2020 - 1:17 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) @23 The last time a full-time West Series driver won in a Chevy was 2015, when David Mayhew won twice. Since then a Chevy has made it to victory lane five times: Chase Elliott getting seat time at Sonoma, Sheldon Creed dropping by for the LVMS dirt track race, Noah Gragson getting seat time at Sonoma, and Sam Mayer winning twice as a visitor from the east. The two predominant teams in the series are BMR (Toyota) and Bruncati (Ford). It's been several years since any real Chevy presence has existed. 25. Should this be worrying about the future of the series? 26. possum posted: 08.21.2020 - 6:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @25 - 11 cars on a 3/8ths track isn't too bad, it's not that different from the past couple of years. On a track that size you'd like to see maybe 16, more that that just clogs things up until a few cars drop out. What should be concerning is seeing 11 car fields at bigger tracks, or that only 9 drivers have attempted all the races. That's not the sign of a healthy series. 27. Anonymous posted: 08.21.2020 - 6:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) 11 cars , woah the state of stock car racing is not good. 20 years ago a race like this would probably have over 30 entries. This was what a street stock race at a small dirt track used to draw. 28. possum posted: 08.22.2020 - 8:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @27 - there's a difference between a late model and a street stock. 30 slowish street stocks on a 3/8ths is fine. 30 late models is just asking for 10 of them to wreck so the race can get started. (I have no idea how many entries this race used to get, but it typically started around 20 cars in better days). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
