Clay Rogers picks up where he left off, fairly dominating the race and winning in his first race back since 2011, and his first win since the penultimate race of 2010. This is also the first race for this series under the X-1R banner. Hard to tell at this point how that will end up. The money to win is more than doubled, but $900 for 11th to run a Pro Cup car is very weak indeed. First Pro Cup start for Gerchak, Smith, Boswell, and Wilson. Continuing the trend from last season only 11 cars showed up to race. I have heard rumors that the count will be up a good bit for the next race at Hickory, but I've heard that a lot over the past year. Still, for a series many never expected to survive the winter in fact has, and the first half of the season appears firm for now. We will see. 2. Morgan starts his title defense with a pole, a top-5 and being the only driver only other than Rogers to lead the race. 3. Pictures from the race are here (look pretty close to last year but I think the changes were chassis related): http://www.carsprocup.com/mediagallery/album.php?aid=26&page=1 4. Hopefully the car counts will improve soon. 5. Mathmatically Challenged posted: 04.11.2013 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) So they had 7 cars registered at this time last season? If that is the case, then why did they let 4 cars race at Andersont that weren't registered? Either way I think that it is sad that this series has dwindled to what it is today. And I don't think that it will grow either...my personal opinion. If you are trying to grow a series, why would you pay the winner 10K every race (JP and Clay) and the poor guys that finish in the back...or 11th...900? And to top it off...you MAKE the teams purchase 6 or 8 tires to race on and allow them to purchase as many practice tires as they want??? The teams running from 5th to last will not be able to survive with that kind of economic thinking. Racing isn't cheap...no one ever said it was. But paying 10K to the winner is only helping the "haves" have more and the "have nots" have less. Good luck with the rest of the season. 6. The prize money for second in this race is the same as 11-15th. The minimum guaranteed payout in 2007 was analogous to top five money today. One quarter the purse, one quarter the field. I'm going to make a WAG and say that the cost of running is 25% of five years ago. 7. That race had a 34 car field with 19 DNQs. This race had a total of 11 drivers show up. 9. Last year's season opener had seven registered so far. They pretty much let in a few unregistered to have a tolerable field. 11. chriswo posted: 04.12.2013 - 1:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) i heard this race on the web, and was really good, to bad the car count was not higher, maybe the next race will have more. 12. Clay Rogers then fairly dominated the race, with only Dalton Hopkins being the only one who could challenge him for the win. Race was decent. 13. Biggest field since 2011... 16. 83andJoe posted: 06.26.2013 - 5:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #15 status: radiator Cautions: Lap 21-24: #66 stopped frontstretch (Lucky Dog: none) Lap 51-55: #15 spin turn 4 (LD: none) Lap 108-115: Debris (LD: #13) Lap 125: Halftime (LD: #2) Lap 194-200: Oil on track (LD: #2) 17. 83andJoe posted: 07.19.2013 - 8:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cautions doubled in the results here too?
