With all due respect to Joey, he wrecked in practice and pulled his
hauler out of the pits before the race. He did not make a qualifying
attempt. How can stats justify placing him in a race result? Sure it
looks 1% better to say there were 13 cars instead of 12, but it's not
truthful.

Lou: According to the Pro Cup Series' offical results, Joey Jones was in
fact listed in the race results, noted as "DNS". It might not be
"truthful", but it's how the sanctioning body chose to classify him.

Yep, I saw it, but if stats aren't correct then why bother having them
at all? Pretty soon we'll all really believe that a start-n-parker in
the Truck Series really did have a handling problem after 2 laps :-)

I was at the race. I saw the article. I saw the 'official' results
files. I just happen to disagree on purely a stats basis only, not for
any other reason. It is an inaccurate stat and I would think the posters
on this site would be pretty hardcore stats nuts too.

Just expressing my opinion in a civilized manner :-)

No biggie. There's a lot bigger problems to worry about in life.

The fact is that thirteen cars did show up on raceday and that needs to
be reflected.

If you don't have to even qualify to be counted in race results, why not
count all the backup cars, too?

You'd have to ask Pro Cup that question...

I'd assume in this case the bar is set at the position where if a car
would make the show regardless of qualifying, due to there being a short
field (given this is the 2013 Pro Cup Series that qualifier may be
redundant...), arriving at the track and passing inspection is sufficient.

It should be mentioned that Jones DID receive Pro Cup Championship
Points for his appearance, which pretty much closes the case.
